He resided in Haverhill until about 1725, when he removed to Dracut, Massachusetts The record of Baptism of James is from the record of the 1st church of Newbury.
He made his will 3 May 1762 at which time he stated that he was "now inlisted as a soldier in his majesties service". On 20 March 1757 he presented a petition to the General Court of Massachusetts in which he stated that his son Ambrose, a minor, carrying on against Crown Point, in the year, 1756, under the command of Capt. Butterfield, and after he was discharged at Lake George, as he was returning home he was taken sick at Glasgow and not able to travel; and when tidings thereof was brought to your petitioner he sent a man and horse to fetch his son home, which occasioned considerable charge to your petitioner according to the account herewith exhibited." He asked that he be renumerated. He was given £3 9s. 8d.
