The circumstances of his death were described by an acquaintance as follows: "Poor Henry Ullmann was found six blocks away from his banking house. He had undoubtedy got bewildered and lost and in the midst of falling walls a gust of flame struck him and he fell breast downwards in the street and was not found until Tuesday afternoon, although Sandy who was in the midst of the fire Monday morning saw him lying where he was found but did not recognize him and I think did not then know he was missing. The stories about Mr. Ullmann being found near his office, that he was endeavoring to escape with his valuables and that he was murdered are sensations and unfounded."
